First introduced by Artifort in 1971, the F656 and F666 lounge chairs embody Kho Liang Ie’s distinctive approach to design, where structural clarity meets inviting comfort. Returning in autumn 2026, these iconic designs retain their original character: a graphic metal wire frame paired with generous upholstery, creating a balance of visual lightness and tactile presence.

Each lounge chair expresses this balance in its own way. The F656 features deep, buttoned upholstery, giving the seat a rich sense of volume and depth, while the F666 is defined by horizontal upholstered channels that introduce a more linear rhythm. Together, they reflect Kho Liang Ie’s enduring design sensibility, in which precision, openness and comfort come together with quiet elegance.

The F656 is a design classic by designer Kho Liang Ie.

Construction
Metal wire frame with tubular base and gliders. The seat and back cushions form a single unit, upholstered with deep buttoned padding. The seat cushion is attached to the metal frame with leather laces, in keeping with the original 1971 design.

Seat height
Standard 39 cm.

The seat and back cushions form a single unit, upholstered with deep-buttoned padding. Available in a wide selection of high-quality fabrics and leathers.

Base finish
The metal wire frame and base is finished in powder coating as standard, with a choice of fifty colours. Chrome plating is available as an option.

Kho Liang Ie was one of the most important influencers and protoganists of the Artifort DNA. Kho Liang Ie (1927 Magelang, Indonesia) came to the Netherlands around 1949, where he trained as an interior designer and designer at the Rietveld Academy. In 1958, he was appointed aesthetic consultant and designer at Artifort. His vision, international contacts and extensive knowledge of design turned Artifort's image to a world-class design brand. Artifort and Kho Liang Ie introduced distinctive designs and together ensured that the name Artifort became a huge success internationally, both with architects and lovers of design. He attracted foreign designers such as Pierre Paulin and Geoffrey D. Harcourt RDI, which has made his influence noticeable right up to the present day. As an interior designer, Kho Liang Ie made his name with his design for Schiphol Airport in the nineteen-sixties. Through those designs, his influence continues to this day. His work reflects purity, warmth and freedom.
