The range of elements in this programme, means that you can create a Mare ensemble to meet a variety of needs. The elements include a lounge section, corner elements and a large foot stool. In addition to the various elements, the programme offers additional options for completely personalising the Mare.

Seat height
Standard 43 cm. Optionally available with a seat height of 45 cm.

Armrest
Standard width 12 cm. Optionally available with an arm width of 21 cm.

Back cushions
Mare loose cushion has a fixed upholstered seat and loose back cushions. Optionally available with upholstery in deep-padded buttons: round upholstered buttons or buttons in stainless steel or wood (natural or dark oiled).

Upholstery
Each Mare is available in many high-quality leather and fabric coverings with a wide range of colours.

Sled base
Comes with standard coating in one of Artifort's powder coat colours. Optionally available in polished stainless steel. The base comes standard with felt floor caps.

Mare offers a wide range of textiles and leather. Supplied with a soft comfort back cushion as standard. Optionally available with a firmer filling.

Mare loose cushion is optionally available with deep-padded buttons. Opt for round buttons in the same fabric as the sofa, or rectangular buttons in stainless steel or wood (natural or dark oiled).


The metal slender base which runs from back to front is finished in a standard Artifort powder coat colour. Optional the base can be finished in polished stainless steel.

Designed by René Holten

Holten (born in 1961) is a graduate of institutions including the Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts and Design and the Design Academy Eindhoven. He has worked for the Dutch architect Wiel Arets as an architectural designer, and for Artifort as the head of product development (1993-1998). He designed the DoDo in 1997, his first design for Artifort, which immediately won the prize for best Dutch Furniture Design 1998. Some of his other designs, such as Libel (2002) and Lotus & Low Lotus (2008) have also won prizes, receiving the award for Good Industrial Design. With his design studio named after himself, René Holten focuses on the furniture and bathroom fittings industries. Besides Artifort, his clients include Pullman (beds), Mosa (tiles), and Clou (bathroom fittings).
