Meet
Artifan Jarmo

In the series Meet the Artifans, Artifort visits design lovers who share a special connection with their Artifort furniture. The series highlights how these designs are not only functional but also carry stories, evoke memories, and connect generations. This time, Artifort visited Jarmo – for whom a single Artifort piece has been part of his life for as long as he can remember.

Jarmo: "From a very young age, I have been surrounded by timeless design. One piece in particular has held a special place in my life: the Artifort Tongue chair by Pierre Paulin. My mother is a true Artifort enthusiast and placed this iconic chair in my bedroom when I was just one year old. It was in this lounge chair that my parents read countless stories to me, and over time it became much more than just a piece of furniture."

What means the Tongue armchair to you now?

Jarmo: "Now, at fourteen, the very same Tongue chair remains my favourite place to relax. Whether I’m gaming, reading, or picking up my guitar to play, it offers comfort and inspiration in equal measure. It’s a small sanctuary — a constant presence as I’ve changed. The best part? My mother and I have agreed that I will take the Tongue chair with me when I eventually move out, a tangible link between my past and my future."

What makes Artifort special to you and your family?

"We love that they care for their designs long after they’ve left the spotlight. Even if a model is no longer part of the permanent collection, Artifort can still reupholster it — keeping design classics beautiful and functional for generations to come. It’s their way of preserving the spirit of craftsmanship and timeless design, without ever compromising authenticity or character."

What does your Tongue chair mean to you personally?
"For me, it’s never just about furniture. It’s about the stories, the memories, and the passing on of something meaningful. The Tongue chair is far more than a seat — it’s a piece of history, both personal and enduring."
